What is Reiki?
Reiki is a gentle, hands-on (or hands-near) practice that originated in Japan. The word combines rei (universal) and ki (life energy). The idea is simple: when we slow down and receive calm, focused attention, the body and mind can settle into a deeper state of rest.
Many people describe feeling lighter, calmer and more grounded afterwards. Some feel warmth or tingling during a session, others simply drift into stillness. There’s no right way to experience it.
What happens in a session
You stay fully clothed and rest comfortably on a treatment table. I place my hands lightly on or just above the body, working through various positions. Sessions last about an hour and we’ll have a short chat beforehand and a moment to reflect afterwards. You don’t need to do anything, believe anything or talk about anything you don’t want to.
How I create a safe healing space
Feeling safe is what allows you to truly let go, so I take care with every detail:
- You’re in control. You can pause, change position or stop at any time. Touch is always optional, and I can work entirely hands-off.
- No pressure, no judgement. You choose what to share, and what you share stays confidential.
- A calm environment. Soft lighting, a warm room, quiet or gentle music, and nothing rushed.
- Unhurried pace. Your session is shaped around how you feel on the day, not a fixed script.
- Respect for your beliefs. Reiki is not tied to any religion, and you’re welcome exactly as you are.
Who is Reiki for?
Anyone who wants a quiet pause: if you’re feeling stressed, depleted or emotionally overloaded, going through a transition, or simply curious. I offer sessions in person in Waterfall, KZN.
Good to know
Reiki is a complementary wellbeing practice. It isn’t a substitute for medical or psychological care, and I never advise anyone to change or stop treatment from their doctor.
